What happens when no one is watching.

Interactive light installation

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN NO ONE IS WATCHING. was developed as part of an art and tech team at TU Delft. It invites the visitors to explore some of the basic concepts of quantum mechanics: superpositioning, entaglement, measurement and collapse. The Expolas (modules) uses white light, the effect of polarized light through a glucose solution, and three polarizing filters to create an analogy for how particles behave on the quantum scale.

Currently, there is significant global investment in developing quantum computers and the quantum internet. This has sparked a worldwide race to achieve breakthroughs in these fields. Quantum technology promises to revolutionize computing and communication, enhancing speed and security. Consequently, it could dramatically shift global power dynamics. Quantum technology holds the potential to become the next major societal revolution.

The aim of this project is both to invoke an intuitive understanding of quantum mechanics and to question what happens when no one is watching the rapid technological and societal changes around us.
